Sausage Tree Charity

Improving education in Zambia’s Luangwa Valley by funding essential resources while fostering a sustainable and empowered community mindset.

Background

Donations to Sausage Tree have been acknowledged with immense gratitude, as they significantly impact the communities served in the Luangwa Valley. The funds provided have been instrumental in supporting Msoro Secondary School, which caters to 450 students within a broader community of 3,000. With classrooms previously in a desperate state, the donation was used to acquire desks, bunk beds, window frames, and doors, greatly improving the learning environment.

In 2024 continued support has been provided for several initiatives which include covering the salaries of four teachers, one librarian, and one gardener at Chiwawatala School, as well as employing two teachers at Valley Lake School. Additionally, two students have been carefully selected for support in their tertiary education. Frank is entering his second year of medical studies, having secured full sponsorship from the government that covers academic expenses. Thanks to the donation, he will receive assistance with travel, accommodation, and living costs. Furthermore, Margaret, a young woman from Mfuwe passionate about conservation, will soon be supported as she embarks on her studies in wildlife management. This initiative aims to break gender barriers and encourage young girls to pursue their aspirations.

Other resources, such as stationery for Chiwawatala and Mambwe Schools, will also be provided to enhance the educational experience.

The positive changes witnessed over the years in this rural area of Zambia reflect a shift in mindset, as the focus is on fostering a sustainable environment and culture through education and tourism, rather than creating a “hand out” dependency. Sausage Tree stands firm in the belief that every child deserves the right to education, a principle that is being realized in this part of rural Zambia thanks, in part, to the generous contributions made by the TASC Foundation.
